Ribbon Cutting:  Automotive Specialty Products (New Location - Automotive Specializing & Customizing) will host a Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:00 p.m., at 805 Country Club Lane (near the Canton Pike end of Country Club Lane).
 
Ribbon Cutting: Aesthetic Associates & Women's Health-Helen Cayce (New Location) will host a Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at 1011 South Main Street.
 
Ribbon Cutting: Buy-Rite Parts & Supply of Hopkinsville (New Owner) will host a Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at 950 Skyline Drive.  Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Business2Business Networking: The next B2B event will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., at Turtle’s Sports Bar & Grill, 1720 Marie Drive (Behind Kroger).  At B2B, businesses sit across from one another, and, at the sound of the bell, one business has 2 minutes to pitch its business, the products and services it sells and what or who the business is looking for.  In exchange, the listening business provides 2 leads and takes 2 business cards to make direct referrals. Chamber’s Small Business Start-up Training: Have you recently started a small business?  Do you feel like there are a few areas in which you need to polish your skills, such as business planning, understanding financial documents, marketing, etc?  Mark your calendar to attend the Chamber’s Small Business Start-up Training on Saturdays, June 7 and June 21, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost is free!  Be sure to register now because there are only 40 seats available.  Register at www.hopkinsvillechamber.com/rsvp. Eagle Ambassador Fun Tour Announcement:  All Eagle Ambassadors or interested Chamber Members are invited to an Eagle Ambassador Fun Tour on June 17, 2008.  The tour will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce and will end no later than 4:00 p.m.  Transportation to Fort Campbell will be provided.  Tentative activities include: status update on the deployment, lunch with the soldiers, rappelling at the Air Assault School, firing weapons at the Engagement Skill Trainer (simulated firing range), and a tour of the museum.  The cost is free, but there is a $3.55 charge for lunch.  Contact Sarah Chester at schester@hopkinsvillechamber.com or 885-9096 to RSVP by May 23rd.

 

Register Now for Power Lunch VII: Understanding the Ins and Outs of Fort Campbell (a training on protocol) will be May 28, 2008 at 11:30 a.m.  at the Commerce Center.  This Power Lunch, featuring Army Family Team Building, is an overview of information and protocol necessary to be successful in your communication with Fort Campbell.  Cost is $12.50 per person which covers the cost of materials and lunch.  Eagle Ambassadors qualify for a special discount!  Contact Alex Krohn at akrohn@hopkinsvillechamber.com or 885-9096 for more information or to register.

Celebrate National Military Appreciation Month in May:  The US Congress has proclaimed May as National Military Appreciation Month.  Today, local elected officials proclaimed May as Military Appreciation Month in Hopkinsville-Oak Grove-Christian County!  Businesses and organizations are encouraged to visit www.hopkinsvillechamber.com to determine ways to be involved and demonstrate your appreciation to the military during this special month!

Second Annual Farmers Market Expo: It's that time of year, for the Downtown Farmers Market to open.  This year’s kick-off for the Farmers Market will be Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion area. Many of last year's farmers market vendors will be on hand to sell their products, and there will be a few new vendors.  During this special event only there will be quilts, books and toys on display. The Expo will start with a parade scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with local antique tractor clubs participating through Downtown Hopkinsville.  There will be a kiddy pedal tractor pull for children ages 2 to 8 years of age.  Trophies will be given to 1st place winners in each of the four (4) age groups.  For more information, contact Barbara Baker at 270-498-5180.

 
Community Brand Unveiling and Proclamation Ceremony:  Mark your calendars to join Mayor Kemp, Judge Steve Tribble and Chamber officials for the Community Brand Unveiling and Proclamation Ceremony at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 12, 2008. The event is sponsored by Bradford Square Mall. During the week, members of the Branding Committee will participate in several functions to distribute information and logo items pertaining to the new community brand.  
 
The Pennyroyal Area Museum Spring Tea Fundraiser:  The Pennyroyal Area Museum is having a Spring Tea on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring your favorite tea cup and saucer and welcome springtime with a nice cup of tea. Guest speaker will be Alethia Prettyman from Bramble & Bee Farm of north Christian County. Alethia will share "Honeybee Tales". The cost for this fund-raiser tea is $12 per person in advance, or $15 at the door. Price includes tea, delicious treats and program. The Museum is located at 217 East Ninth Street in downtown Hopkinsville. Call 270-887- 4270 for more information.
 
Home Buyers Fair: The Board of Realtors is sponsoring a Home Buyers Fair for Hopkinsville-Christian County on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 2601 S. Walnut Street, Hopkinsville.  The purpose of this fair is to educate people about the process of purchasing a home, credit counseling, and all aspects of purchasing and owning a home.  Refreshments and door prizes are provided.  For more information, call the Board of Realtors at 270-885-8365.
 

The Greater Hopkinsville Chamber Community Foundation Board of Directors Announcement: The Greater Hopkinsville Chamber Community Foundation Board of Directors is searching for a company that can produce a donor wall to recognize the donors to the Community Vision Plan.  If you are qualified to provide such a service, please notify Betsy Shelton by emailing bshelton@hopkinsvillechamber.com or by calling 270-885-9096 no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2008.

 
Make Your Mark Karaoke Contest at Little Rivers Days: On Saturday, May 17, 2008 come out and show your stuff at the Little River Days Make Your Mark Karaoke Contest, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cash prizes of $100 and $50 will be awarded to the first and second place winners, respectively. The contest is sponsored by Planters Bank and Trio Signs and is open to everyone.  Little River Days Festival runs from from Friday, May 16 - Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Little River Park, Downtown Hopkinsville.
 
River Days at LBL: Woodland Nature Station and the Homeplace at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area will recognize National Wetlands Month during Memorial Day Weekend with activities focusing on rivers in our region.   River Days begin on Saturday, May 24, and continues through Monday, May 26, 2008 with activities and events for all ages.  For more details or to make reservations call 270-924-2020 weekdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Summer Nights Program also returns to Golden Pond Planetarium, beginning May 30, 2008.  The Planetarium is located at the Golden Pond Visitor Center in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.  For more information, call 1-800-LBL-7077 or 270-924-2000.
 
Oak Grove’s Spring into Summer Festival: On Saturday, May 24, 2008 Oak Grove Spring into Summer Festival will take place from   2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the War Memorial Walking Trail, 101 Walter Garrett Lane, Oak Grove, KY. Dean Boggess Scholarship Offered:  The Dean Boggess Scholarship is being offered through the International Association of Administrative Professionals.  Requirements include: 1. Applicant must be a high school graduate from a Christian County school; 2. Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at Hopkinsville Community College or Murray State University at Hopkinsville Campus; 3. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, preferably enrolled in a curriculum that prepares for a career as an office professional.  Applications are available at BB&T Northwest Branch on North Drive or Pennyroyal Mental Health Office at Hammond Plaza and must be submitted no later than May 31, 2008.  For more information, contact Bernida Belcher at 270-887-2299 or bbelcher@bbt.com.  
 
The Pennyroyal Area Museum Displaying Traveling Quilt Show: The Pennyroyal Area Museum announces a traveling quilt show, sponsored by the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society. The 2007 Challenge Quilts, "My Window on the World," will be on display through May 31, 2008 at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. This show features 11 quilts, portraying a common theme, made by KHQS members. A "must see" for quilt lovers in the area. The museum is located at 217 East 9th Street in downtown Hopkinsville. The museum hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. General Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Special group rates available.
