Deployment Update: Currently, Fort Campbell has nearly 17,500 soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. 1,500 additional soldiers will deploy over the next six weeks. Soldiers are expected to begin returning home around November 2008 through June 2009. |

| Project Playground: Kid Designed, Community Built: The playground building begins on April 30 and will continue through May 4. To make this happen, volunteers are still needed needed. There are three shifts each day, and opportunities are available for all ages and all skill levels. The committee guarantees that they will return items in as good or better condition as they receive them, or they will be replaced. | Derby Arts Festival: On Saturday, May 3, 2008, The Hopkinsville Art Guild, in collaboration with the City of Hopkinsville, the Pennyrile Academy of Fine Arts, Christian County Extension 4-H program, White Drive Products, area schools and the Public Library, are hosting the first Derby Arts Festival. | Land Between the Lakes Offering Several Events: Beginning May 4, 2008 competitive archery target shoots are once again scheduled this summer at Land Between the Lakes (LBL). On Saturday, May 10, 2008 LBL will offer several events: A Dulcimer Workshop for Beginners from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The program fee is $30 and the workshop is limited to 12 participants. | Community Brand Unveiling and Proclamation Ceremony: Mark your calendars to join Mayor Kemp, Judge Steve Tribble and Chamber officials for the Community Brand Unveiling and Proclamation Ceremony at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 12, 2008. | The Pennyroyal Area Museum Spring Tea Fundraiser: The Pennyroyal Area Museum is having a Spring Tea on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Bring your favorite tea cup and saucer and welcome springtime with a nice cup of tea. Guest speaker will be Alethia Prettyman from Bramble & Bee Farm of north Christian County. Alethia will share "Honeybee Tales". | Dean Boggess Scholarship Offered: The Dean Boggess Scholarship is being offered through the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Requirements include: 1. Applicant must be a high school graduate from a Christian County school; 2. Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at Hopkinsville Community College or Murray State University at Hopkinsville Campus; 3. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, preferably enrolled in a curriculum that prepares for a career as an office professional.
